"This pub/restaurant is one the of the most welcoming
and friendly ever! Three of us spent a weekend up in
North Devon and definitely agree that we couldn't have
asked for a better 'local' to our campsite! The real
ales selection were great, the food was lovely and the
people even better...definitely worth a visit..and we'll
be back again for sure!"

The staff are very friendly indeed and made me feel very
at home! The food was excellent and all in all I felt I
was in my local pub, home from home (which is
Oxfordshire). Barbara and staff were always happy to
help I would recommend this pub to anyone! Loved it!

Staff were very very and flexible when we asked to move
around several tables so that we could all talk
together.

We arrived as a big group of 24 and the service was
great. All the food orders came out simultaneously with
no mistakes. Food was good value and quality. A very
enjoyable evening and we were very well looked after by
the staff.

Spent the weekend in Devon diving. Went to Hele
Billy's 3
nights on the trot. The service and the food was
outstanding every time. The staff were friendly and
welcoming with a good sense of humour. Put this on the
"must visit list" if visiting the area.

Two great meals (Chilli, then half shoulder of lamb)
over two nights and traditional puddings. No fancy
messing with layers. Good, well looked after, beer too.
Always a plus ;-) If the busy night I saw last w/e is
anything to go by, booking ahead is recommended too.

Superb Food and a great welcome. We dined at Hele
Billy's
3 times over the past weekend on Saturday we squeezed 23
into the restaurant and couldn't have been happier with

This is the best pub food in the Ilfracombe area by a
country mile. Quality and consistency from Simon are
signs of an excellent chef. Barbara serves an excellent
pint of real ale

While on holiday in Hele Valley came across Hele Billy's
and found the food and the staff good. We ate there on
several occasions and also just popped in for a drink
and a few games of pool. Great since the no smoking ban
came into force and the place has been steam cleaned.

Great restaurant owned by Barbara and Simon since
December 2005, assisted by daughters Farah and Maxine. Many home made dishes, freshly cooked and great quality.
Relaxed atmosphere and good fun. Only a small place so
make sure you book at weekends.

Yuuuummmmmmmyyyyyyyyyy. Fantastic food and the service

On a whim at the last minute we returned for Sunday Lunch yesterday. We usually eat off the price buster menu (which is excellent value) but instead opted for the Sunday Roast.
I had beef which was cooked to perfection for me and the veg was plentiful, my wife had Turkey and she ate it al, (she usually doesn't and I get to finish it).
The service is next to none and the choice of beers exceptional for a small premise.
Barbara and Simon keep the good food coming!

From the outside it looks like any other pub but on the
inside, it's a great place for eating! Excellent menu
with good service and great value.

Okay, I made a mistake and ordered the wrong main course
(rack of ribs - average). My fault, and it was only
wrong because my friend's fresh sea bream was stunning.
My moules in a Thai red curry sauce were delicious, the
beers were excellent (I had Tribute) and the staff were
divine.
We were lucky to get a table on a Saturday night so
"book to avoid disappointment." There's very good
reason why this place is rated by Camra, the Good Pub
Guide and Trip advisor (and ME)!

We often eat here and I keep meaning to write a review
to say how very good it is. Food is locally sourced and
includes several fish dishes. It is delicious,
beautifully cooked and presented.
Barbara and her staff always make you feel welcome and
provide a friendly, prompt and efficient
service.....what more could you ask? We can
thoroughly recommend.

We were recommended this restaurant and it certainly
lived up to the recommendation. The service was
fantastic, the food was very good and couldn't be
faulted, he portion sizes were also very good. It was
good value too.
I'd recommend you book. We went on a Wednesday and
hadn't booked and were lucky to get a table.

A wonderful little restaurant with a very relaxed and
friendly atmosphere. Great for a lunchtime snack or a
full 3-courses. We have been going there for years and
the food just keeps getting better and better. There is
an extensive menu - the fish is particularly good, and
the prices are very reasonable. Barbara and her staff
always make our visits special.

Well what an amazing place! I couldn't have asked for
any better, Seating was comfortable didn't feel stuffed
in a corner even though we chose a table in the corner
due to having the doggy it was very roomy and the
atmosphere was brilliant, The waitress was very kind and
chatty and told us about her day as well as asking about
ours. The food was incredible I chose the Beef burger
with Blue Cheese and Mushrooms and it was out of this
world! I was so full after eating it that I could well
and truly vow to everyone you get more than what you pay
for! However I couldn't pass on the offer of dessert I
had something I wouldn't normally pick Ice- Cream but it
was a scoop of Ginger ice-cream which sounded
interesting, a scoop of vanilla and a scoop of I can not
even remember it was presented so beautifully and tasted
even better! I was very pleased with the hospitality
Barbara was a lovely lady who seemed to really enjoy
what she did and that shone through. Absolutely
Brilliant I could not fault once. Even the bathroom was
decorated well and seems like your in a high end
restaurant with hand creams etc. Then when you walk back
into the bar area you feel right at home :D

The last day of our hols, we wanted to have a nice
relaxed meal. another local business had recommended
Hele Billy`s. We had our dog with us and needed
somewhere that allowed dogs. As soon as we stepped
through the door we were made really welcome. They were
holding a beer festival that weekend so as a real ale
fan, I was in heaven, there were 9 ales on offer and 2
ciders all locally brewed. The menu was equally as good.
we all choose the burgers, not very top class you might
say, you`d be wrong. there was fish dishes, steaks,
something for every taste inc veggies. The service was
good, the landlady Barbara was lovely.

We were a party of 9 shooters from the Midlands who,
following a successful evening at HB's last year,
decided the place was worth another visit. Once again
Barbara was an excellent hostess. Welcoming and
friendly, she got the evening off to a flying start by
showing an impressive knowledge of the ales on sale, and
was able to recommend which would suit the various
palates of each member of our thirsty ensemble.
The menu at HB's is comprehensive, with dishes to suit
all tastes. I chose whitebait to start, with shin of
beef main course, both of which were excellent. Between
the 9 of us several different options were ordered, but
all were equally complimentary about the quality of the
food.
If you're in the Ilfracombe area, I highly recommend a
visit to this establishment. The food is excellent, the
prices are reasonable, and the welcome and service will
be hard to beat.
And as a bonus... throughout the evening we were served
by a very efficient and absolutely gorgeous young
waitress. The general consensus was that, were we all 30
years younger, this young lady would have had enough
offers of a date to fill her diary for a fortnight.
Well done Barbara and Simon! Another great evening, and
I look forward to my next visit
"Visited on consecutive nights between Christmas and new
year as I was so impressed with the first visit.An
extensive menu with varying specials I selected pork
loin served with lyonnaise potatoes, succulent tasty
pork and the lyonnaise is a difficult dish often bland
but they have it mastered here, as good as any michelin
starred west end restaurant.The icing on the cake, (the
homemade sweets are delicious) hmm it's between the
fabulously kept ales and the very efficient smiling
staff, whatever it is, they have a winning formula
here.Happy to report that the pool table has gone
replaced by yet more dining tables.The way they are
going they will need to extend..."
Excellent choice for Sunday lunch with friends just
before Christmas. Great food and good choice of wines
and beers. Wish everyone at Hele billy's a good
Christmas and great New Year. We will be returning soon
for somemore great food from the wide range on your
menu.

Being local, we often eat here so I wasn't sure what to
put for month of visit! Nice environment for dining with
friends, family or couples. We love the ciabatta bread
with dipping oil, succulent shin of beef and gammon, egg
and chips! Holiday makers to our cottage have
appreciated the fact that Hele Billy's is dog friendly
and others have said if they had dined here on the first
night they would have gone all week! In the summer,
booking is advisable. Early Bird menu excellent value.
Had a lovely meal service was brilliant and the food was
excellent. They couldnt be more accommodating.
